The festival of Gangaur is celebrated every year on the third day of Chaitra Shukla Paksha. This festival is especially celebrated in Rajasthan. By the way, this festival starts from the second day of Holi. This festival is celebrated from the second day of Holi to the next sixteen days and ends with Gangaur on Chaitra Shukla Tritiya. Married women fast on this day for the long life of their husbands and for their happiness and good fortune, hence this festival of Gangaur is also known as Saubhagya Tritiya.
हर साल चैत्र शुक्ल पक्ष की तृतीया तिथि को गणगौर का त्योहार मनाया जाता है । ये त्योहार विशेषतौर पर राजस्थान में मनाया जाता है। वैसे तो इस त्योहार की शुरुआत होली के दूसरे दिन से ही हो जाती है । ये त्योहार होली के दूसरे दिन से लेकर अगले सोलह दिनों तक मनाया जाता है और चैत्र शुक्ल तृतीया को गणगौर के साथ ये पूर्ण होता है । इस दिन विवाहित महिलाएं अपने पति की लंबी उम्र के लिये और अपने सुख-सौभाग्य के लिये व्रत करती हैं, इसलिए गणगौर के इस त्योहार को सौभाग्य तृतीया के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
